CCS, which is constituted as a broad suite of capture and sequestration technologies and techniques, does not preclude coupling with other energy industries such as bioenergy (bioenergy and CCS or BECCS). In this paper, we examined news media coverage of CCS and biomass individually in locations throughout the US where these technologies are being explored to determine how they are perceived and what possibilities lay in their coupling for climate change mitigation. From our analyses, we found that individually, both CCS and biomass are perceived generally as beneficial for energy development by the news media, though they are not often mentioned in combination. Combined references do, however, speak to their value for climate change mitigation and as an alternative to fossil fuels.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3390\/en8043058","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2015,4,21]],"date-time":"2015-04-21T06:26:47Z","timestamp":1429597607000},"page":"3058-3074","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3390\/mdpi_crossmark_policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":49,"title":["News Media Analysis of Carbon Capture and Storage and Biomass: Perceptions and Possibilities"],"prefix":"10.3390","volume":"8","author":[{"given":"Andrea","family":"Feldpausch-Parker","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Environmental Studies, State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry, 1 Forestry Drive, Syracuse, NY 13210, USA"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"Morey","family":"Burnham","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Environmental Studies, State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry, 1 Forestry Drive, Syracuse, NY 13210, USA"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"Maryna","family":"Melnik","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Environmental Studies, State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry, 1 Forestry Drive, Syracuse, NY 13210, USA"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"Meaghan","family":"Callaghan","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Environmental Studies, State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry, 1 Forestry Drive, Syracuse, NY 13210, USA"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-9484-8592","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Theresa","family":"Selfa","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Environmental Studies, State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry, 1 Forestry Drive, Syracuse, NY 13210, USA"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]}],"member":"1968","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2015,4,20]]},"reference":[{"key":"ref_1","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","unstructured":"Creutzig, F., Ravindranath, N.H., Berndes, G., Bolwig, S., Bright, R., Cherubini, F., Chum, H., Corbera, E., Delucchi, M., and Masera, O.
