The criticality of this set of materials is scrutinized not only in terms of the comparison of production\/reserves but also in terms of geopolitical and environmental aspects related to their exploration. For this quantitative forecasting exercise, a logistic equation tool was used to estimate future accumulated production considering the logistic extrapolation of the current level of production. Conclusions are drawn about the possibility of the depletion of this set of materials, as well as other environmental and\/or geopolitical risks involved in their massive mining explorations.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3390\/en18174686","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2025,9,3]],"date-time":"2025-09-03T15:15:57Z","timestamp":1756912557000},"page":"4686","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3390\/mdpi_crossmark_policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":0,"title":["Logistic-Based Forecasting Exercise on the Availability of the Materials Currently Identified as the Most Critical for the Energy Transition"],"prefix":"10.3390","volume":"18","author":[{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-7993-4919","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Tessaleno","family":"Devezas","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Engineering Department, Atlantica University Institute, 2730-036 Lisbon, Portugal"}]}],"member":"1968","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2025,9,3]]},"reference":[{"key":"ref_1","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","first-page":"4257","DOI":"10.1073\/pnas.1500415112","article-title":"Criticality of Metals and Metalloids","volume":"112","author":"Graedel","year":"2015","journal-title":"Proc.
