Adherence to personal data protection and healthcare regulatory guidelines were analyzed and compared for GDPR (Europe), HIPAA (United States), CCPA (California), PIPEDA (Canada), the Privacy Act of 1988 (Australia), APPI (Japan), and LGPD (Brazil). Issues such as health systems, strengthening and aligning policy orientations and initiatives, and emphasizing the role of data analysis in shaping health policies were explored. The study addressed conflicts between the legal frameworks and blockchain, comparing and suggesting solutions like the revision of laws and the integration of compliance mechanisms. Additionally, it sought to enhance IT-health literacy by integrating the healthcare and legal domains. Ongoing collaboration between legal, health, and IT experts is essential for designing systems that effectively balance privacy rights and data protection while maximizing the benefits of disruptive technologies like blockchain.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3390\/ijerph21020230","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2024,2,16]],"date-time":"2024-02-16T03:37:27Z","timestamp":1708054647000},"page":"230","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3390\/mdpi_crossmark_policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":13,"title":["Reflections about Blockchain in Health Data Sharing: Navigating a Disruptive Technology"],"prefix":"10.3390","volume":"21","author":[{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0003-2477-1857","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Ana","family":"Corte-Real","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Clinical and Academic Centre of Coimbra, 3004-531 Coimbra, Portugal"},{"name":"Faculty of Medicine, University of Coimbra, 3000-370 Coimbra, Portugal"}]},{"given":"Tiago","family":"Nunes","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Clinical and Academic Centre of Coimbra, 3004-531 Coimbra, Portugal"},{"name":"Faculty of Medicine, University of Coimbra, 3000-370 Coimbra, Portugal"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0003-2701-5248","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Paulo Rupino","family":"da Cunha","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Centre for Informatics and Systems of the University of Coimbra, Department of Informatics Engineering, University of Coimbra, 3030-790 Coimbra, Portugal"}]}],"member":"1968","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2024,2,16]]},"reference":[{"key":"ref_1","unstructured":"United Nations.
