Growing evidence points to them, in concert with mitochondria, as important players within the antiviral response. In this review we summarize and discuss the recent findings concerning the relevance of peroxisomes within innate immunity. We not only emphasize their importance as platforms for cellular antiviral signaling but also review the current information concerning their role in the control of bacterial infections. We furthermore review the recent data that pinpoints peroxisomes as regulators of inflammatory processes.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3390\/ijms20153795","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2019,8,5]],"date-time":"2019-08-05T03:25:22Z","timestamp":1564975522000},"page":"3795","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3390\/mdpi_crossmark_policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":45,"title":["Peroxisomes and Innate Immunity: Antiviral Response and Beyond"],"prefix":"10.3390","volume":"20","author":[{"given":"Ana Rita","family":"Ferreira","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Institute of Biomedicine (iBiMED) & Department of Medical Sciences, University of Aveiro, 3810-193 Aveiro, Portugal"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0003-1284-334X","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Mariana","family":"Marques","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Institute of Biomedicine (iBiMED) & Department of Medical Sciences, University of Aveiro, 3810-193 Aveiro, Portugal"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0003-3397-0460","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Daniela","family":"Ribeiro","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Institute of Biomedicine (iBiMED) & Department of Medical Sciences, University of Aveiro, 3810-193 Aveiro, Portugal"}]}],"member":"1968","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2019,8,3]]},"reference":[{"key":"ref_1","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","first-page":"443","DOI":"10.1007\/s00418-018-1722-5","article-title":"The peroxisome: an update on mysteries 2.0","volume":"150","author":"Islinger","year":"2018","journal-title":"Histochem.
