The sample comprises 580 children (337 girls, 9\u201311 years). Sedentariness was assessed with an accelerometer, and BMI was computed. Child- and school-level covariates were analyzed using multilevel models. No significant correlation between Sed and BMI was found. School context explains 5% and 1.5% of the total variance in Sed and BMI, respectively. At the child level, only moderate-to-vigorous physical activity was associated with both Sed (\u03b2 = \u22120.02 \u00b1 0.002) and BMI  (\u03b2 = \u22120.005 \u00b1 0.002). Sleep time is related to Sed (\u03b2 = \u22120.42 \u00b1 0.04), while sex  (\u03b2 = 1.97 \u00b1 0.13), biological maturity (\u03b2 = 1.25 \u00b1 0.07), media in the bedroom  (\u03b2 = 0.26 \u00b1 0.08) and healthy (\u03b2 = \u22120.09 \u00b1 0.03) and unhealthy (\u03b2 = \u22120.07 \u00b1 0.04) diet scores were associated with BMI. None of the school-level covariates were related to BMI, but access to cafeteria (\u03b2 = \u22120.97 \u00b1 0.25), playground equipment (\u03b2 = \u22120.67 \u00b1 0.20) and restaurants (\u03b2 = 0.16 \u00b1 0.08) were related to Sed. In conclusion, Sed and BMI were not correlated. Further, they have different correlates, while children\u2019s traits seem to play more relevant roles in their differences in Sed and BMI than the school milieu.
