Primeiro, procura-se mapear a investiga\u00e7\u00e3o j\u00e1 produzida sobre este movimento, a n\u00edvel internacional. Segundo, discute-se a evolu\u00e7\u00e3o do n\u00famero de escolas e de estudantes no mundo, com particular aten\u00e7\u00e3o \u00e0s tend\u00eancias observadas nos pa\u00edses lus\u00f3fonos e ibero-americanos. Terceiro, apresentam-se resultados de uma an\u00e1lise documental sobre as escolas IB em S\u00e3o Paulo, Lisboa e Maputo, com enfoque nas suas miss\u00f5es e vis\u00f5es institucionais. Al\u00e9m de uma menor express\u00e3o, em compara\u00e7\u00e3o com o observado em pa\u00edses de l\u00edngua espanhola, concluiu-se que o crescimento das escolas IB nas metr\u00f3poles de l\u00edngua oficial portuguesa tem sido alimentado tanto pela convers\u00e3o do modelo das escolas internacionais tradicionais, como pelo surgimento de projetos empresariais especializados neste tipo de escolas. A narrativa da excel\u00eancia escolar e da forma\u00e7\u00e3o de l\u00edderes globais tende a tornar-se hegem\u00f3nica.
