Combin."],"abstract":"<jats:p>Given any finite simplicial complex $\\Delta$, we show how to construct\u00a0from a colouring $\\chi$ of $\\Delta$\u00a0a new simplicial complex $\\Delta_{\\chi}$ that is balanced\u00a0and vertex decomposable. In addition,\u00a0the $h$-vector of $\\Delta_{\\chi}$ is precisely\u00a0the $f$-vector of $\\Delta$. \u00a0Our construction generalizes the \"whiskering'' construction\u00a0of Villarreal, and Cook and Nagel.
