No IR dust continuum emission is detected in either, indicating little amounts of obscured star formation and\/or high dust temperatures. MASOSA, with a UV luminosity <jats:italic>M<\/jats:italic>\n                  <jats:sub>1500<\/jats:sub>\u00a0=\u00a0\u221220.9, compact size, and very high Ly<jats:italic>\u03b1<\/jats:italic>\n                  <jats:inline-formula>\n                     <jats:tex-math>\n\n<\/jats:tex-math>\n                     <jats:inline-graphic xmlns:xlink=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/1999\/xlink\" xlink:href=\"apjab2f81ieqn1.gif\" xlink:type=\"simple\"\/>\n                  <\/jats:inline-formula>, is undetected in [C <jats:sc>ii<\/jats:sc>] to a limit of <jats:italic>L<\/jats:italic>\n                  <jats:sub>[C <jats:sc>ii<\/jats:sc>]<\/jats:sub>\u00a0&lt;\u00a02.2\u00a0\u00d7\u00a010<jats:sup>7<\/jats:sup>\n                  <jats:italic>L<\/jats:italic>\n                  <jats:sub>\u2299<\/jats:sub>, implying a metallicity <jats:italic>Z<\/jats:italic> \u2272 0.07 <jats:italic>Z<\/jats:italic>\n                  <jats:sub>\u2299<\/jats:sub>. Intriguingly, our <jats:italic>HST<\/jats:italic> data indicate a red UV slope <jats:italic>\u03b2<\/jats:italic>\u00a0=\u00a0\u22121.1\u00a0\u00b1\u00a00.7, at odds with the low dust content. VR7, which is a bright (<jats:italic>M<\/jats:italic>\n                  <jats:sub>1500<\/jats:sub>\u00a0=\u00a0\u221222.4) galaxy with moderate color (<jats:italic>\u03b2<\/jats:italic>\u00a0=\u00a0\u22121.4\u00a0\u00b1\u00a00.3) and Ly<jats:italic>\u03b1<\/jats:italic> EW<jats:sub>0<\/jats:sub>\u00a0=\u00a034 \u00c5, is clearly detected in [C <jats:sc>ii<\/jats:sc>] emission (S\/N\u00a0=\u00a015). VR7's rest-frame UV morphology can be described by two components separated by \u22481.5 kpc and is globally more compact than the [C <jats:sc>ii<\/jats:sc>] emission. The global [C <jats:sc>ii<\/jats:sc>]\/UV ratio indicates <jats:italic>Z<\/jats:italic>\u00a0\u2248\u00a00.2<jats:italic> Z<\/jats:italic>\n                  <jats:sub>\u2299<\/jats:sub>, but there are large variations in the UV\/[C <jats:sc>ii<\/jats:sc>] ratio on kiloparsec scales. We also identify diffuse, possibly outflowing, [C <jats:sc>ii<\/jats:sc>]-emitting gas at \u2248100 km s<jats:sup>\u22121<\/jats:sup> with respect to the peak. VR7 appears to be assembling its components at a slightly more evolved stage than other luminous LAEs, with outflows already shaping its direct environment at <jats:italic>z<\/jats:italic>\u00a0\u223c\u00a07.
