Out of all kind of floods, a rainfall-induced flood is just a problem created by a lack of water storage methods, which can be eliminated if a better removal system is available. For flood avoidance, many methods have been used, out of which a dedicated drainage pipeline structure may facilitate better removal. This article shows the theory of cellular automata with its new application for flood avoidance using ground leveling. This article analyzes the performance of hexagonal shapes compared with a popular rectangle grid. The article also shows the impact of various layers on the size of the tank. This article provides knowledge towards the flood avoidance for a flood free smart city.<\/p>","DOI":"10.4018\/ijaec.2018040104","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2018,5,3]],"date-time":"2018-05-03T12:40:31Z","timestamp":1525351231000},"page":"38-51","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":2,"title":["A Novel Drainage System Using Cellular Automata to Avoid Urban Flood"],"prefix":"10.4018","volume":"9","author":[{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-6674-0584","authenticated-orcid":true,"given":"Neeraj","family":"Kumar","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Lucknow, India"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"Alka","family":"Agrawal","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Lucknow, India"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"Raees Ahmad","family":"Khan","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Indian Institute of Information Technology, India"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]}],"member":"2432","reference":[{"key":"IJAEC.2018040104-0","unstructured":"Almeida, C.
