Recidivism represents cyclical criminality that affects all American communities. Despite substantial expenditures toward the warehousing of inmates within the corrections system, less emphasis is directed toward leveraging vocational and career educational programs as resources through which recidivism rates may be reduced societally. However, in 2015, the Second Chance Pell Pilot Program was announced as an experimental program whereby prisoners may access Pell funding for educational purposes. Given the advent of this experimental program, this article reviews some historical literature and recommends future directions regarding education among corrections settings.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.4018\/ijavet.2018010102","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2018,1,29]],"date-time":"2018-01-29T09:46:21Z","timestamp":1517219181000},"page":"15-30","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":1,"title":["Failed Hopes of Education"],"prefix":"10.4018","volume":"9","author":[{"given":"David H.","family":"McElreath","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"University of Mississippi, Oxford, USA"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"Daniel Adrian","family":"Doss","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"University of West Alabama, Livingston, USA"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"Carl","family":"Jensen","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"The Citadel, Charleston, USA"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"Stephen","family":"Mallory","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"University of Mississippi, Oxford, USA"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"Michael","family":"Wigginton","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"University of Southern Mississippi, Hattiesburg, USA"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"Terry","family":"Lyons","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"University of Mississippi, Oxford, USA"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"Lorri C.","family":"Williamson","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"University of Mississippi, Oxford, USA"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"Leisa S.","family":"McElreath","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"University of Mississippi, Oxford, USA"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]}],"member":"2432","reference":[{"key":"IJAVET.2018010102-0","unstructured":"Anderson, N.
