Key requirement of IO performance virtualization is performance isolation. The current state of performance isolation for virtualization is more rudimentary. This paper presents a resources allocation framework, based on abstracted Xen IO model, that provides both throughput and fairness guarantees for network and storage device via 2-level resource control. The high-level tier makes guest domains perceive the states of the resource through resource control on sharing ring buffer. The high-level tier uses public\/private token-bucket to support work-conserving and fairly distributes any spare bandwidth to the different VMs. The low-level tier is intended to meet the fairness guarantee, and computes token quantity value of each bucket by feedback-driven scheduler. The authors analytically and experimentally demonstrated that their framework is work-conserving, and achieves fairness, and high adaptability.<\/p>","DOI":"10.4018\/ijcac.2012040102","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2012,6,28]],"date-time":"2012-06-28T11:50:10Z","timestamp":1340884210000},"page":"12-30","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":0,"title":["Proportional Allocation of Resources on Shared Ring Buffer for Virtualization"],"prefix":"10.4018","volume":"2","author":[{"given":"Wenzhi","family":"Cao","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Huazhong University of Science and Technology, China"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"Hai","family":"Jin","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Huazhong University of Science and Technology, China"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"Xia","family":"Xie","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Huazhong University of Science and Technology, China"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]}],"member":"2432","reference":[{"key":"ijcac.2012040102-0","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1145\/502912.502915"},{"key":"ijcac.2012040102-1","unstructured":"Anderson, E., Hobbs, M., Keeton, K., Spence, S., Uysal, M., & Veitch, A.
