This study focused on how Chinese students perceive the use of using mobile devices for English practice in and out of class, in order to see whether they are interested in mobile-assisted language learning (MALL) and how they construct the technology with regard to English learning. One hundred and one students from eighteen universities in mainland China participated in this study. All of them completed an anonymous questionnaire and 20 randomly selected students were interviewed. The results illuminate a strong motivation among students for learning English via mobiles, and diverse types of m-learning activities were discovered. The results also revealed that students' attitudes toward mobile learning can be impacted by their regions or more specifically their surroundings.<\/p>","DOI":"10.4018\/ijcallt.2014070102","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2014,10,20]],"date-time":"2014-10-20T12:42:19Z","timestamp":1413808939000},"page":"1-14","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":20,"title":["Chinese Students' Perceptions of Using Mobile Devices for English Learning"],"prefix":"10.4018","volume":"4","author":[{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-4863-0998","authenticated-orcid":true,"given":"Bin","family":"Zou","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Xi'an Jiaotong - Liverpool University, Suzhou, Jiangsu, China"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"Xinxin","family":"Yan","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Xi'an Jiaotong - Liverpool University, Suzhou, Jiangsu, China"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]}],"member":"2432","reference":[{"key":"ijcallt.2014070102-0","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.4018\/ijcallt.2012100102"},{"issue":"5","key":"ijcallt.2014070102-1","first-page":"28","article-title":"Going Nomadic: Mobile learning in higher education.","volume":"39","author":"B.Alexander","year":"2004","journal-title":"EDUCAUSE Review"},{"key":"ijcallt.2014070102-2","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","unstructured":"Aydin, S.
