They also have comparatively low production and distribution costs on the part of the producer. This paper investigates the potential of using casual games for student assessment using an educational variation of the widely known game of Snakes and Ladders, implemented for this purpose. The game was received positively by students, as well as teachers participating in its evaluation leading to the conclusion that casual games with the ease and flexibility they offer provide interesting potential for deployment in educational settings.<\/p>","DOI":"10.4018\/ijgbl.2012010102","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2012,1,13]],"date-time":"2012-01-13T08:47:10Z","timestamp":1326444430000},"page":"16-32","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":4,"title":["Is there a Place for Casual Games in Teaching and Learning?"],"prefix":"10.4018","volume":"2","author":[{"given":"Vasilis","family":"Daloukas","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Secondary School Teacher of Informatics, Greece"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"Maria","family":"Rigou","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"University of Patras, Greece"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"Spiros","family":"Sirmakessis","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Technological Institution of Mesolonghi, Greece"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]}],"member":"2432","reference":[{"key":"ijgbl.2012010102-0","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.2307\/3619261"},{"key":"ijgbl.2012010102-1","unstructured":"Blunt, R.
