While video games have been historically associated to problems such as obesity, social introversion and aggressive behavior, exergames brought a new perspective in which these cultural artifacts could contribute to people's education concerning the practice of physical activity. This article presents a study about the setting up of an exergame lab focusing on kids and preadolescents who usually show signs of dissatisfaction with PE. The research methodology followed a qualitative observation approach, involving twenty-four students of both genders for three months. Results demonstrated that students who were normally unmotivated to participate in PE classes showed a positive attitude regarding the exergame practices and demonstrated their willingness to collaborate with peers. The study also showed that exergaming provides situations in which students can increase the regularity of their practice of physical exercises.<\/p>","DOI":"10.4018\/ijgbl.2015070101","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2015,6,15]],"date-time":"2015-06-15T15:09:38Z","timestamp":1434380978000},"page":"1-10","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":28,"title":["Exergaming as an Alternative for Students Unmotivated to Participate in Regular Physical Education Classes"],"prefix":"10.4018","volume":"5","author":[{"given":"Mateus David","family":"Finco","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"PPGIE\/Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), Porto Alegre, Brazil"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"Eliseo","family":"Reategui","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"PPGIE\/Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), Porto Alegre, Brazil"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"Milton Antonio","family":"Zaro","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"PPGIE\/Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), Porto Alegre, Brazil"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"Dwayne D.","family":"Sheehan","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Mount Royal University, Calgary, Canada"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"Larry","family":"Katz","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"University of Calgary, Calgary, Canada"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]}],"member":"2432","container-title":["International Journal of Game-Based Learning"],"original-title":[],"language":"ng","link":[{"URL":"https:\/\/www.igi-global.com\/viewtitle.aspx?TitleId=130628","content-type":"unspecified","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"similarity-checking"}],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2022,6,2]],"date-time":"2022-06-02T01:31:03Z","timestamp":1654133463000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/services.igi-global.com\/resolvedoi\/resolve.aspx?doi=10.4018\/IJGBL.2015070101"}},"subtitle":[""],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2015,7,1]]},"references-count":0,"journal-issue":{"issue":"3","published-print":{"date-parts":[[2015,7]]}},"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.4018\/ijgbl.2015070101","relation":{},"ISSN":["2155-6849","2155-6857"],"issn-type":[{"value":"2155-6849","type":"print"},{"value":"2155-6857","type":"electronic"}],"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2015,7,1]]}}}
