As such, the skills required to access and effectively sort through this information (information literacy skills) become ever more important for success in both academic and non-academic settings. This study sought to assess the efficacy of two educational games designed to increase high school students' information literacy skills. Using a randomized controlled trial in a high school setting, the games were integrated into a standard curriculum and tested for efficacy. Post-test results indicated that both games effectively transmit targeted skills. Additionally, improved performance (relative to controls) on end-of-instruction testing (EOI; end-of-year state testing) suggest that these skills transfer across important academic domains. The study provides strong evidence to support the use of these two educational games to supplement and enhance information literacy instruction.<\/p>","DOI":"10.4018\/ijgbl.2017100101","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2017,8,18]],"date-time":"2017-08-18T08:18:19Z","timestamp":1503044299000},"page":"1-21","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":12,"title":["Game-Based Learning and Information Literacy"],"prefix":"10.4018","volume":"7","author":[{"given":"Scott Neal","family":"Wilson","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"The University of Oklahoma, Norman, Oklahoma, USA"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"Caroline E.","family":"Engler","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"The University of Oklahoma, Norman, Oklahoma, USA"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"Jessica E.","family":"Black","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"The University of Oklahoma, Norman, Oklahoma, USA"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"Derik K.","family":"Yager-Elorriaga","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"The University of Oklahoma, Norman, Oklahoma, USA"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"William Michael","family":"Thompson","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"The University of Oklahoma, Norman, Oklahoma, USA"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"Andrae","family":"McConnell","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"The University of Oklahoma, Norman, Oklahoma, USA"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"Javier Elizondo","family":"Cecena","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"The University of Oklahoma, Norman, Oklahoma, USA"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"Ryan","family":"Ralston","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"The University of Oklahoma, Norman, Oklahoma, USA"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"Robert A.","family":"Terry","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"The University of Oklahoma, Norman, Oklahoma, USA"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]}],"member":"2432","reference":[{"issue":"3","key":"IJGBL.2017100101-0","first-page":"1","article-title":"Perspectives on information literacy: A framework for conceptual understanding.","volume":"18","author":"C.Addison","year":"2013","journal-title":"Information Research"},{"key":"IJGBL.2017100101-1","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.2307\/3250951"},{"key":"IJGBL.2017100101-2","unstructured":"American Library Association's Presidential Committee on Information Literacy.
