The design of effective pattern classification methods is one of the main challenges for sEMG-based HMIs. In this paper, the authors compared comprehensively the performance of different linear and nonlinear classifiers for the pattern classification of sEMG with respect to three pairs of upper-limb motions (i.e., hand close vs. hand open, wrist flexion vs. wrist extension, and forearm pronation vs. forearm supination). A feature selection approach based on information gain was also performed to reduce the muscle channels. Overall, the results showed that the linear classifiers produce slightly better classification performance, with or without the muscle channel selection.<\/p>","DOI":"10.4018\/ijghpc.2015100104","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2015,11,20]],"date-time":"2015-11-20T14:26:06Z","timestamp":1448029566000},"page":"47-56","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":1,"title":["Performance Comparison of Classification Methods for Surface EMG-Based Human-Machine Interface"],"prefix":"10.4018","volume":"7","author":[{"given":"Chun","family":"Yang","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"College of Mathematics and Information, South China Agricultural University, Guangzhou, China"}]},{"given":"Jinyi","family":"Long","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"School of Automation Science and Engineering, South China University of Technology, Guangzhou, China & Key Laboratory of Advanced Control and Optimization for Chemical Processes, Ministry of Education, Shanghai, China"}]},{"given":"Hao","family":"Wang","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, Aalesund University College, Aalesund, Norway"}]}],"member":"2432","container-title":["International Journal of Grid and High Performance Computing"],"original-title":[],"language":"ng","link":[{"URL":"https:\/\/www.igi-global.com\/viewtitle.aspx?TitleId=141356","content-type":"unspecified","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"similarity-checking"}],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2022,6,1]],"date-time":"2022-06-01T19:46:49Z","timestamp":1654112809000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/services.igi-global.com\/resolvedoi\/resolve.aspx?doi=10.4018\/IJGHPC.2015100104"}},"subtitle":[""],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2015,10,1]]},"references-count":0,"journal-issue":{"issue":"4","published-print":{"date-parts":[[2015,10]]}},"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.4018\/ijghpc.2015100104","relation":{},"ISSN":["1938-0259","1938-0267"],"issn-type":[{"value":"1938-0259","type":"print"},{"value":"1938-0267","type":"electronic"}],"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2015,10,1]]}}}
