This project not only considered the data collected from student activity tracking, but also examined students' perception of how the videos engaged and helped them remember course material. Collection of data was conducted using a pre-intervention and post-intervention survey, a pre-test, a post-test (mid-term exam), and an online behavior evaluation rubric. A statistically significant increase in scores from pre-test to post-test occurred. Students reported that they preferred the animated instructional videos over the textbook and believed videos helped them remember the material. Overall, the project showed that students enjoyed the videos and many recommended that additional ones be created for the rest of the course. Although time-consuming, instructional videos were worth the effort to keep students engaged and learn course material.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.4018\/ijicte.2020070108","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2020,3,27]],"date-time":"2020-03-27T12:58:51Z","timestamp":1585313931000},"page":"113-125","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":9,"title":["Enhancing Student Achievement, Engagement, and Satisfaction Using Animated Instructional Videos"],"prefix":"10.4018","volume":"16","author":[{"given":"April","family":"Cookson","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Northwest-Shoals Community College, USA"}]},{"given":"Daesang","family":"Kim","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Valdosta State University, USA"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-8520-1666","authenticated-orcid":true,"given":"Taralynn","family":"Hartsell","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Valdosta State University, USA"}]}],"member":"2432","reference":[{"key":"IJICTE.2020070108-0","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1177\/2158244016680686"},{"key":"IJICTE.2020070108-1","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1016\/j.compedu.2016.06.005"},{"key":"IJICTE.2020070108-2","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1177\/2158244017697161"},{"key":"IJICTE.2020070108-3","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1109\/TLT.2015.2444374"},{"key":"IJICTE.2020070108-4","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1007\/s11528-016-0110-z"},{"key":"IJICTE.2020070108-5","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1016\/j.nedt.2016.04.010"},{"key":"IJICTE.2020070108-6","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.5204\/jld.v9i3.293"},{"key":"IJICTE.2020070108-7","author":"R.Heinich","year":"1999","journal-title":"Instructional media and technologies for learning"},{"issue":"2","key":"IJICTE.2020070108-8","first-page":"151","article-title":"The importance of action research in teacher education programs.
