The authors show how an approach that is rooted in simulation can be useful to predict the benefits of using a workflow management system. The approach is discussed and its application is demonstrated in the setting of the pre-operative process as being executed in the Bronovo hospital. The approach is considered useful for other healthcare organizations in search for a better foundation for the application of workflow technology.<\/p>","DOI":"10.4018\/ijkbo.2012100102","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2012,10,22]],"date-time":"2012-10-22T16:14:54Z","timestamp":1350922494000},"page":"20-34","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":0,"title":["On Predicting the Results of Applying Workflow Management in a Healthcare Context"],"prefix":"10.4018","volume":"2","author":[{"given":"Bob","family":"Chermin","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Eindhoven University of Technology, Eindhoven, The Netherlands"}]},{"given":"Ingmar","family":"Frey","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Eindhoven University of Technology, Eindhoven, The Netherlands"}]},{"given":"Hajo","family":"Reijers","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Eindhoven University of Technology, Eindhoven, The Netherlands"}]},{"given":"Harm","family":"Smeets","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Bronovo Hospital, The Hague, The Netherlands"}]}],"member":"2432","reference":[{"key":"ijkbo.2012100102-0","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1197\/jamia.M1471"},{"key":"ijkbo.2012100102-1","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1016\/S0951-8320(97)00064-1"},{"key":"ijkbo.2012100102-2","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","unstructured":"Gottschalk, F., Van der Aalst, W.
