In order for software reuse to advance from an opportunistic activity to a well-defined, systematic state of practice, the reuse phenomenon should be empirically studied in a real-world environment. To this end, OSS projects consist a fitting context for this purpose. In this paper, the authors aim at assessing the: (a) strategy and intensity of reuse activities in OSS development, (b)effect of reuse activities on design quality, (c) modification of reuse decisions from a chronological viewpoint and (d) effect of these modifications on software design quality. In order to achieve these goals, the authors performed a large-scale embedded multi-case study on 1,111 Java projects, extracted from Google Code repository. The results of the case study provide a valuable insight on reuse processes in OSS development, that can be exploited by both researchers and practitioners.<\/p>","DOI":"10.4018\/ijossp.2014070101","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2016,4,21]],"date-time":"2016-04-21T15:11:43Z","timestamp":1461251503000},"page":"1-19","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":7,"title":["Quantifying Reuse in OSS"],"prefix":"10.4018","volume":"5","author":[{"given":"Eleni","family":"Constantinou","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Thessaloniki, Greece"}]},{"given":"Apostolos","family":"Ampatzoglou","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"University of Groningen, Groningen, Netherlands"}]},{"given":"Ioannis","family":"Stamelos","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Thessaloniki, Greece"}]}],"member":"2432","container-title":["International Journal of Open Source Software and Processes"],"original-title":[],"language":"ng","link":[{"URL":"https:\/\/www.igi-global.com\/viewtitle.aspx?TitleId=150449","content-type":"unspecified","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"similarity-checking"}],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2022,6,1]],"date-time":"2022-06-01T22:19:51Z","timestamp":1654121991000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/services.igi-global.com\/resolvedoi\/resolve.aspx?doi=10.4018\/IJOSSP.2014070101"}},"subtitle":["A Large-Scale Empirical Study"],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2014,7,1]]},"references-count":0,"journal-issue":{"issue":"3","published-print":{"date-parts":[[2014,7]]}},"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.4018\/ijossp.2014070101","relation":{},"ISSN":["1942-3926","1942-3934"],"issn-type":[{"value":"1942-3926","type":"print"},{"value":"1942-3934","type":"electronic"}],"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2014,7,1]]}}}
