In a flipped classroom, the conventional roles of classroom and homework are reversed: students study on their own using digital teaching materials or e-learning prior to class and then apply their learning in classroom activities. The authors have developed a method for improving the effectiveness of the classroom component: the students in a class are grouped on the basis of the time they spent studying (as recorded in their self-study logs) and their degree of understanding (as revealed by a self-study achievement test), and a different learning model is used for each group to improve their degree of understanding. Although they were unable to find a meaningful statistical difference in the test scores obtained in an experiment using one class of 34 students, there was a notable difference in the way questions were answered. The results of a free-description questionnaire indicate that the group learning encourages active learning.<\/p>","DOI":"10.4018\/ijsi.2016040102","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2016,4,1]],"date-time":"2016-04-01T07:44:27Z","timestamp":1459496667000},"page":"17-32","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":4,"title":["A Method Based on Self-Study Log Information for Improving Effectiveness of Classroom Component in Flipped Classroom Approach"],"prefix":"10.4018","volume":"4","author":[{"given":"Katsuyuki","family":"Umezawa","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Hitachi, Ltd., Tokyo, Japan"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"Takashi","family":"Ishida","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Takasaki City University of Economics, Takasaki, Japan"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"Michitaka","family":"Aramoto","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Ad-Sol Nissin Corporation, Tokyo, Japan"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"Manabu","family":"Kobayashi","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Shonan Institute of Technology, Fujisawa, Japan"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"Makoto","family":"Nakazawa","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"The University of Aizu, Aizuwakamatsu, Japan"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"Shigeichi","family":"Hirasawa","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Waseda University, Tokyo, Japan"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]}],"member":"2432","container-title":["International Journal of Software Innovation"],"original-title":[],"language":"ng","link":[{"URL":"https:\/\/www.igi-global.com\/viewtitle.aspx?TitleId=149137","content-type":"unspecified","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"similarity-checking"}],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2022,6,1]],"date-time":"2022-06-01T23:43:37Z","timestamp":1654127017000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/services.igi-global.com\/resolvedoi\/resolve.aspx?doi=10.4018\/IJSI.2016040102"}},"subtitle":[""],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2016,4,1]]},"references-count":0,"journal-issue":{"issue":"2","published-print":{"date-parts":[[2016,4]]}},"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.4018\/ijsi.2016040102","relation":{},"ISSN":["2166-7160","2166-7179"],"issn-type":[{"value":"2166-7160","type":"print"},{"value":"2166-7179","type":"electronic"}],"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2016,4,1]]}}}
