Most of the existing service discovery approaches focus on finding candidate services based on functional and non-functional requirements as well as historical usage analysis. Complementary to the existing methods, this paper proposes to leverage human trust to facilitate software service selection and recommendation. A trust model is presented that leverages the implicit human factor to help quantify the trustworthiness of candidate services. A hierarchical Knowledge-Social-Trust (KST) network model is established to extract hidden knowledge from various publication repositories (e.g., DBLP) and social networks (e.g., Twitter and DBLP). As a proof of concept, a prototyping service has been developed to help scientists evaluate and visualize trust of services. The performance factor is studied and experience is reported.<\/p>","DOI":"10.4018\/ijwsr.2015070102","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2015,6,30]],"date-time":"2015-06-30T11:49:21Z","timestamp":1435664961000},"page":"25-47","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":0,"title":["A Trust-Powered Technique to Facilitate Scientific Tool Discovery and Recommendation"],"prefix":"10.4018","volume":"12","author":[{"given":"Jia","family":"Zhang","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Carnegie Mellon University, Silicon Valley, CA, USA"}]},{"given":"Chris","family":"Lee","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Carnegie Mellon University, Silicon Valley, CA, USA"}]},{"given":"Petr","family":"Votava","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"NASA Ames Research Center, Silicon Valley, USA & Science Mission Directorate, NASA Headquarters, Washington, D.C., USA"}]},{"given":"Tsengdar J.","family":"Lee","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Science Mission Directorate, NASA Headquarters, Washington, D.C., USA"}]},{"given":"Shuai","family":"Wang","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Carnegie Mellon University, Silicon Valley, CA, USA"}]},{"given":"Venkatesh","family":"Sriram","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Carnegie Mellon University, Silicon Valley, CA, USA"}]},{"given":"Neeraj","family":"Saini","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Carnegie Mellon University, Silicon Valley, CA, USA"}]},{"given":"Pujita","family":"Rao","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Carnegie Mellon University, Silicon Valley, CA, USA"}]},{"given":"Ramakrishna","family":"Nemani","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"NASA Ames Research Center, Silicon Valley, CA, USA"}]}],"member":"2432","container-title":["International Journal of Web Services Research"],"original-title":[],"language":"ng","link":[{"URL":"https:\/\/www.igi-global.com\/viewtitle.aspx?TitleId=132754","content-type":"unspecified","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"similarity-checking"}],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2022,6,2]],"date-time":"2022-06-02T03:47:53Z","timestamp":1654141673000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/services.igi-global.com\/resolvedoi\/resolve.aspx?doi=10.4018\/IJWSR.2015070102"}},"subtitle":[""],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2015,7,1]]},"references-count":0,"journal-issue":{"issue":"3","published-print":{"date-parts":[[2015,7]]}},"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.4018\/ijwsr.2015070102","relation":{},"ISSN":["1545-7362","1546-5004"],"issn-type":[{"value":"1545-7362","type":"print"},{"value":"1546-5004","type":"electronic"}],"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2015,7,1]]}}}
