Social websites are also referred to as social network sites and social media sites which reflect technology, users, content and linguistic issues as heterogeneous combination of entities for interaction and communication via this media. Social websites have clearly achieved widespread adoption as a new means of communication in a very short time around the globe. An extensive review of extant literature on social websites is presented in this paper to reflect their growing importance, the reasons for their adoption, the content shared, the mode of use and the language used for communication illustrating that social websites are a combination of a number of technological and social entities. This paper highlights emerging research issues on social networking sites as a future communication tool and the innovation in communication using the Actor Network Theory.<\/p>","DOI":"10.4018\/jantti.2012010104","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2012,1,31]],"date-time":"2012-01-31T08:49:20Z","timestamp":1327999760000},"page":"39-51","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":2,"title":["Innovation in Communication"],"prefix":"10.4018","volume":"4","author":[{"given":"Mohini","family":"Singh","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"RMIT University, Australia"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"Yogesh K.","family":"Dwivedi","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Swansea University, UK"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"Ray","family":"Hackney","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Brunel University, UK"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"Konrad","family":"Peszynski","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"RMIT University, Australia"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]}],"member":"2432","reference":[{"key":"jantti.2012010104-0","unstructured":"Acquisti, A., & Gross, R.
