The paper proposes a unique blockchain solution design that leverages blockchain's properties of transparency and ability to create tamper-resistant audit trails to reduce opportunities for double-ending fraud and increase real estate market participants' trust in the handling of their transactions. The paper discusses the implementation of a prototype of the solution based on hyperledger fabric and sails; it presents the results of an agent-based modelling simulation validating that the inherent transparency of the proposed design offers optimal allocation for both sellers and buyers.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.4018\/jdm.2021010102","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2021,2,9]],"date-time":"2021-02-09T16:53:28Z","timestamp":1612889608000},"page":"27-48","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":23,"title":["Usurping Double-Ending Fraud in Real Estate Transactions via Blockchain Technology"],"prefix":"10.4018","volume":"32","author":[{"given":"Atefeh","family":"Mashatan","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Ryerson University, Canada"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"Victoria","family":"Lemieux","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"University of British Columbia, Canada"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"Seung Hwan (Mark)","family":"Lee","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Ryerson University, Canada"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"Przemys\u0142aw","family":"Szufel","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"SGH Warsaw School of Economics, Poland"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"Zachary","family":"Roberts","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Ryerson University, Canada"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]}],"member":"2432","container-title":["Journal of Database Management"],"original-title":[],"language":"en","link":[{"URL":"https:\/\/www.igi-global.com\/viewtitle.aspx?TitleId=272505","content-type":"unspecified","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"similarity-checking"}],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2022,5,6]],"date-time":"2022-05-06T03:46:53Z","timestamp":1651808813000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"http:\/\/services.igi-global.com\/resolvedoi\/resolve.aspx?doi=10.4018\/JDM.2021010102"}},"subtitle":[""],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2021,1]]},"references-count":0,"journal-issue":{"issue":"1"},"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.4018\/jdm.2021010102","relation":{},"ISSN":["1063-8016","1533-8010"],"issn-type":[{"value":"1063-8016","type":"print"},{"value":"1533-8010","type":"electronic"}],"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2021,1]]}}}
