Groups were tasked with clustering brainstorming ideas through the use of a group support system (GSS) tool. The tool allowed each participant to create and modify categories to which individual brainstorming ideas could be aligned. No explicit means of coordination were available; each participant worked autonomously to cluster the brainstorming ideas. The results indicated that the groups working synchronously displayed improved performance and satisfaction ratings. Likewise, groups categorizing the smallest quantity of brainstorming ideas performed better than the larger quantities.<\/p>","DOI":"10.4018\/jec.2009062605","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2010,4,30]],"date-time":"2010-04-30T09:37:55Z","timestamp":1272620275000},"page":"67-81","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":5,"title":["Synchronicity and Group Ability to Autonomously Cluster Brainstorming Ideas"],"prefix":"10.4018","volume":"5","author":[{"given":"Joel H.","family":"Helquist","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Utah Valley University, USA"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"John","family":"Krus","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"MITRE Corporation, USA"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"Jay F.","family":"Nunamaker Jr.","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Center for the Management of Information - University of Arizona, USA"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]}],"member":"2432","reference":[{"key":"jec.2009062605-0","unstructured":"Briggs, R.
