It provides an analytical framework that integrates both the supply and the demand sides of citizen interaction with e-government. In modeling three dimensions of online civic engagement (government information access, service transactions, and contributing to government policy-making processes), the study framework incorporates a number of variables, including political activism, civic involvement, perceived benefits and difficulties, information channels, and demographic characteristics. Based on a national sample of Internet users, the study highlights the importance of the supply side (availability of e-government) for promoting civic engagement. Furthermore, political activism is found to be related positively to accessing government policy information and contributing to policy-making processes. The study results also confirm the significant impact of perceived benefits in fostering online civic engagement. Future research can benefit from this study by utilizing a more comprehensive model, treating various dimensions of online engagement separately, and conducting an in-depth analysis of the elements of perceived benefits.<\/p>","DOI":"10.4018\/jegr.2006010104","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2011,2,15]],"date-time":"2011-02-15T18:46:14Z","timestamp":1297795574000},"page":"54-76","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":40,"title":["Electronic Government and Online Engagement"],"prefix":"10.4018","volume":"2","author":[{"given":"Yu-Che","family":"Chen","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Iowa State University, USA"}]},{"given":"Daniela V.","family":"Dimitrova","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Iowa State University, USA"}]}],"member":"2432","container-title":["International Journal of Electronic Government Research"],"original-title":[],"language":"ng","link":[{"URL":"https:\/\/www.igi-global.com\/viewtitle.aspx?TitleId=2012","content-type":"unspecified","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"similarity-checking"}],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2022,6,1]],"date-time":"2022-06-01T19:42:55Z","timestamp":1654112575000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/services.igi-global.com\/resolvedoi\/resolve.aspx?doi=10.4018\/jegr.2006010104"}},"subtitle":["Citizen Interaction with Government via Web Portals"],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2006,1,1]]},"references-count":0,"journal-issue":{"issue":"1","published-print":{"date-parts":[[2006,1]]}},"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.4018\/jegr.2006010104","relation":{},"ISSN":["1548-3886","1548-3894"],"issn-type":[{"value":"1548-3886","type":"print"},{"value":"1548-3894","type":"electronic"}],"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2006,1,1]]}}}
