The paper analyzes these resources in terms of being valuable, rare, inimitable, immobile, and non-substitutable in the ERP solutions market. The study found four key complementary resources that contribute to competitive advantage, namely: (1) ERP core product; (2) horizontal add-ons; (3) vertical add-ons; and (4) customer specific add-ons. The paper examines the potential impact of an ERP vendor\u2019s business development strategy that includes changing the ERP solution from a horizontal to a vertical focus, and increasing the partner certification requirements to be part of the ecosystem. The evidence suggests that the strategy, if implemented successfully, maintains competitive advantage for the ERPCorp ecosystem through effectively combining resources and leveraging lock-in and network effects.<\/p>","DOI":"10.4018\/jeis.2011040102","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2011,10,19]],"date-time":"2011-10-19T16:19:35Z","timestamp":1319041175000},"page":"18-33","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":14,"title":["Strategic Management of Network Resources"],"prefix":"10.4018","volume":"7","author":[{"given":"Michelle","family":"Antero","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Copenhagen Business School, Denmark"}]},{"given":"Philip Holst","family":"Riis","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Copenhagen Business School, Denmark"}]}],"member":"2432","reference":[{"key":"jeis.2011040102-0","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.2307\/1252108"},{"issue":"4","key":"jeis.2011040102-1","first-page":"98","article-title":"Match your innovation strategy to your innovation ecosystem.","volume":"84","author":"R.Adner","year":"2006","journal-title":"Harvard Business Review"},{"key":"jeis.2011040102-2","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1016\/S0963-8687(96)80039-4"},{"key":"jeis.2011040102-3","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1177\/014920639101700108"},{"key":"jeis.2011040102-4","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.3316\/QRJ0902027"},{"key":"jeis.2011040102-5","author":"C.Christensen","year":"2002","journal-title":"The innovator's dilemma: The revolutionary book that will change the way you do business"},{"key":"jeis.2011040102-6","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1016\/S0149-2063(99)00037-9"},{"issue":"8","key":"jeis.2011040102-7","first-page":"95","article-title":"The discipline of innovation.","volume":"80","author":"P.Drucker","year":"2002","journal-title":"Harvard Business Review"},{"key":"jeis.2011040102-8","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.2307\/259056"},{"key":"jeis.2011040102-9","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.2307\/258557"},{"key":"jeis.2011040102-10","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1287\/orsc.7.2.136"},{"key":"jeis.2011040102-11","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1177\/0149206309350083"},{"key":"jeis.2011040102-12","unstructured":"Fox, P., Wareham, J., & Cano, J.
