The study explores how structural capital and cognitive capital indirectly affect firm performance through relational capital. The research model is generally supported by data collected from a survey of 205 firms in China. The results suggest that structural and relational capital positively influence substantive and symbolic performance, respectively. However, cognitive capital does not have significant effects on substantive performance, though it positively affects symbolic performance. Also, the study found that structural capital and relational capital have stronger effects on substantive performance than symbolic performance. In contrast, cognitive capital has stronger effects on symbolic performance than substantive performance. Further, both structural capital and cognitive capital positively affect relational capital.<\/p>","DOI":"10.4018\/jgim.2016010104","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2016,3,21]],"date-time":"2016-03-21T13:29:26Z","timestamp":1458566966000},"page":"61-85","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":10,"title":["The Effects of Social Capital on Firm Substantive and Symbolic Performance"],"prefix":"10.4018","volume":"24","author":[{"given":"Hefu","family":"Liu","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"School of Management, University of Science and Technology of China, Hefei, China"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"Weiling","family":"Ke","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"School of Business, Clarkson University, Potsdam, NY, USA"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"Kwok Kee","family":"Wei","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"City University of Hong Kong, Kowloon, Hong Kong"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"Yaobin","family":"Lu","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"School of Management, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan, China"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]}],"member":"2432","container-title":["Journal of Global Information Management"],"original-title":[],"language":"ng","link":[{"URL":"https:\/\/www.igi-global.com\/viewtitle.aspx?TitleId=148275","content-type":"unspecified","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"similarity-checking"}],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2022,6,1]],"date-time":"2022-06-01T13:44:39Z","timestamp":1654091079000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/services.igi-global.com\/resolvedoi\/resolve.aspx?doi=10.4018\/JGIM.2016010104"}},"subtitle":["In the Context of E-Business"],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2016,1,1]]},"references-count":0,"journal-issue":{"issue":"1","published-print":{"date-parts":[[2016,1]]}},"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.4018\/jgim.2016010104","relation":{},"ISSN":["1062-7375","1533-7995"],"issn-type":[{"value":"1062-7375","type":"print"},{"value":"1533-7995","type":"electronic"}],"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2016,1,1]]}}}
