This paper examines a number of computer use ethical scenarios focusing on the modification of URLs within Web browsers. Using the documented case of applicants to several Ivy-league schools as a discussion point, this paper presents a survey of U.S. students enrolled in information security and computer ethics classes, asking at what point does modifying the URL become hacking, and at what point does it become unethical. The findings of this study are discussed.<\/p>","DOI":"10.4018\/jitn.2013040104","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2013,8,6]],"date-time":"2013-08-06T13:17:31Z","timestamp":1375795051000},"page":"43-50","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":0,"title":["URL Manipulation and the Slippery Slope"],"prefix":"10.4018","volume":"5","author":[{"given":"Michael E.","family":"Whitman","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Coles College of Business, Kennesaw State University, Kennesaw, Georgia, USA"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"Humayun","family":"Zafar","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Coles College of Business, Kennesaw State University, Kennesaw, Georgia, USA"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]}],"member":"2432","reference":[{"key":"jitn.2013040104-0","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1145\/151220.151231"},{"key":"jitn.2013040104-1","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.2307\/249677"},{"key":"jitn.2013040104-2","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1109\/6294.918214"},{"key":"jitn.2013040104-3","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1023\/B:BUSI.0000032658.12032.4e"},{"key":"jitn.2013040104-4","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1109\/MIC.2003.1200302"},{"key":"jitn.2013040104-5","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","unstructured":"Chapman, C.
