A participatory action research approach was adopted, beginning with the establishment of a lecturer community of practice focusing upon exploring pedagogical change enabled by mobile social media while allowing the project to develop within a series of reflective interventions within the course. These interventions included the use of Twitter, blogging, QR Codes, and Facebook as part of authentic scenarios throughout the course. Drawing on this experience, the paper presents an emergent framework for a response to social media within journalism education, illustrating the positive impact of integrating the use of mobile social media on student engagement, collaboration and contextualising theory within authentic learning environments.<\/p>","DOI":"10.4018\/jmbl.2013040102","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2013,7,1]],"date-time":"2013-07-01T12:34:27Z","timestamp":1372682067000},"page":"22-38","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":21,"title":["Journalism 2.0"],"prefix":"10.4018","volume":"5","author":[{"given":"Thomas","family":"Cochrane","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Centre for Learning and Teaching (CfLAT), Auckland University of Technology, Auckland, New Zealand"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"Helen","family":"Sissons","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"School of Communication Studies, Auckland University of Technology, Auckland, New Zealand"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"Danni","family":"Mulrennan","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Auckland University of Technology, Auckland, New Zealand"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"Richard","family":"Pamatatau","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"School of Communication Studies, Auckland University of Technology, Auckland, New Zealand"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]}],"member":"2432","reference":[{"key":"jmbl.2013040102-0","unstructured":"Ashton, D.
