A sample of expert household end users was surveyed concerning privacy, risk perceptions, and online behavior intentions. A new e-privacy typology consisting of privacy-aware, privacy-suspicious, and privacy-active types was developed from a principal component factor analysis. Results suggest the presence of a privacy hierarchy of effects where awareness leads to suspicion, which subsequently leads to active behavior. An important finding was that privacy-active behavior that was hypothesized to increase the likelihood of online subscription and purchasing was not found to be significant. A further finding was that perceived risk had a strong negative influence on the extent to which respondents participated in online subscription and purchasing. Based on these results, a number of implications for managers and directions for future research are discussed.<\/p>","DOI":"10.4018\/joeuc.2006010101","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2011,2,15]],"date-time":"2011-02-15T19:27:37Z","timestamp":1297798057000},"page":"1-22","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":77,"title":["Privacy, Risk Perception, and Expert Online Behavior"],"prefix":"10.4018","volume":"18","author":[{"given":"J.","family":"Drennan","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"University of Technology, Australia"}]},{"given":"G.","family":"Sullivan","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Griffith University, Australia"}]},{"given":"J.","family":"Previte","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"The University of Queensland, Australia"}]}],"member":"2432","container-title":["Journal of Organizational and End User Computing"],"original-title":[],"language":"ng","link":[{"URL":"https:\/\/www.igi-global.com\/viewtitle.aspx?TitleId=3806","content-type":"unspecified","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"similarity-checking"}],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2022,6,1]],"date-time":"2022-06-01T17:18:55Z","timestamp":1654103935000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/services.igi-global.com\/resolvedoi\/resolve.aspx?doi=10.4018\/joeuc.2006010101"}},"subtitle":["An Exploratory Study of Household End Users"],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2006,1,1]]},"references-count":0,"journal-issue":{"issue":"1","published-print":{"date-parts":[[2006,1]]}},"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.4018\/joeuc.2006010101","relation":{},"ISSN":["1546-2234","1546-5012"],"issn-type":[{"value":"1546-2234","type":"print"},{"value":"1546-5012","type":"electronic"}],"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2006,1,1]]}}}
