However, HIT has also been known to introduce unintended consequences and adverse effects. The adverse effects range from process changes to serious clinical errors. In order to ensure the safety of healthcare information technologies, the authors propose a usability analysis framework for healthcare information technology that can help identify, classify and prioritize potential errors. Such a framework can help design better usability studies specifically targeted at studying technology-induced errors and therefore help in the design of safer healthcare information technologies.<\/p>","DOI":"10.4018\/jtd.2012100102","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2013,9,9]],"date-time":"2013-09-09T13:06:47Z","timestamp":1378732007000},"page":"20-28","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":2,"title":["A Usability Analysis Framework for Healthcare Information Technology"],"prefix":"10.4018","volume":"3","author":[{"given":"Surendra","family":"Sarnikar","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Dakota State University, Madison, SD, USA"}]},{"given":"Maureen","family":"Murphy","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Dakota State University, Madison, SD, USA"}]}],"member":"2432","reference":[{"key":"jtd.2012100102-0","article-title":"The unintended consequences of computerized provider order entry: Findings from a mixed methods exploration.","author":"J.
