Until the late 1960s, the press exhibited indifference when it\n\t\t\t\t\tcame to decolonization. With the Hueting interview of 1969, television, as\n\t\t\t\t\twell as radio, provided veterans a platform to represent their experiences.\n\t\t\t\t\tLiterary works for the most part provided nostalgic memories of loss. However,\n\t\t\t\t\tMoluccan activists as well as postmemory novelists problematized\n\t\t\t\t\tunremembering during the 1970s and 1980s. De Jong\u2019s work of the late 1980s\n\t\t\t\t\tbroke the silence of the historical guild. By the mid-1990s the collective\n\t\t\t\t\tmemory of decolonization had become highly contested. Today, with the\n\t\t\t\t\tlegal courts writing history, historians seek to reclaim the initiative of\n\t\t\t\t\tundoing the decades of unremembering of previous generations.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.5117\/9789463728744_ch08","type":"book-chapter","created":{"date-parts":[[2021,11,2]],"date-time":"2021-11-02T23:37:00Z","timestamp":1635896220000},"source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":0,"title":["Conclusion"],"prefix":"10.4324","author":[{"given":"Paul M.M.","family":"Doolan","sequence":"first","affiliation":[]}],"member":"301","container-title":["Collective Memory and the Dutch East Indies"],"original-title":[],"language":"en","link":[{"URL":"https:\/\/scienceopen.com\/book?vid=3fb3eaba-8478-4dcd-a8de-093e0f8d1aac","content-type":"unspecified","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"similarity-checking"}],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2025,11,4]],"date-time":"2025-11-04T22:47:30Z","timestamp":1762296450000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/scienceopen.com\/book?vid=3fb3eaba-8478-4dcd-a8de-093e0f8d1aac"}},"subtitle":[],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2021]]},"ISBN":["9789048553075","9789048553075","9789463728744"],"references-count":0,"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.5117\/9789463728744_ch08","relation":{"is-identical-to":[{"id-type":"doi","id":"10.2307\/j.ctv209xng5.13","asserted-by":"subject"},{"id-type":"doi","id":"10.2307\/j.ctv209xng5","asserted-by":"subject"},{"id-type":"doi","id":"10.5117\/9789463728744-9","asserted-by":"object"}]},"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2021]]}}}
