Rock glaciers are frequent in the ice-free peninsulas of the South Shetlands , yet their geomorphological characteristics, velocities and responses to climate remain poorly understood. Hurd rockglacier, situated in Hurd Peninsula on Livingston Island, spans the floor of a small glacial valley, descending from 390 m to sea level at False Bay. This valley, enclosed by steep rock walls with extensive scree slopes, is home to a small, retreating cirque glacier with a notable frontal moraine, giving rise to the rockglacier. The rockglacier itself extends about 630 m in length and 290 m in width, with its surface characterized by pressure ridges and furrows. Here, we present the monitoring results from Hurd rockglacier by analysing its annual surface velocity variability from 2011 to 2024. We installed stakes in the rockglacier and measured their position every summer (except 2021 and 2023) using differential GPS. In 2016, 2020 and 2024 we have conducted drone surveying using optical cameras and deriving ultra-high resolution orthomosaics and digital surface models. This allowed to produce a very detailed geomorphological map and to analyse horizontal and vertical changes in the rock glacier body. In 2024, we used a 10-band multispectral camera to map the vegetation cover and a thermal infrared camera to asses surface temperatures. Surface velocity data is compared with borehole temperatures obtained a few kilometers away at the Papagal observatory. The preliminary results show annual velocities averaged for all stakes from 0.12 m\/yr to 0.16 m\/yr. The series shows a small non-statistical significant increase in velocity and a weak positive correlation with mean annual temperatures at the Papagal borehole at 4 m depth. The period was characterized by a cooling trend until 2015 followed by warming afterwards. These results will be further detailed and discussed at the presentation.
