The non-linearity introduced by sine and cosine expressions make solving the equations analytically unexpected challenging. Although the differential equations and solutions steps are very similar, only an explicit solution is known for the pendulum, whereas as for the cantilever a semi-analytical solutions requiring numerical methods exist.
