{"status":"ok","message-type":"work","message-version":"1.0.0","message":{"indexed":{"date-parts":[[2025,10,31]],"date-time":"2025-10-31T08:08:33Z","timestamp":1761898113004,"version":"3.41.0"},"reference-count":0,"publisher":"Advances in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning","issue":"02","content-domain":{"domain":[],"crossmark-restriction":false},"short-container-title":["AAIML"],"published-print":{"date-parts":[[2025]]},"abstract":"<jats:p>JD and Tmall ended restricted models of their ecosystems in 2024 with a new collaborative\napproach that opened previously isolated spaces or referred as \u2018walled gardens.\u2019 This study\nexplores the key drivers of this shift and how these major e-commerce platforms coordinate\nlogistics and payment systems amidst intense market competition. We adopted a hybrid\napproach to collect data through word cloud analysis, followed by thematic analysis with\nverification by Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) modeling, which minimizes coder bias.\nOur study results show that, while regulatory pressure, including antitrust policies, played a\nrole, several non-regulatory factors were equally or more influential. These include shifting\nconsumer expectations for faster delivery, growing demand for secure and flexible payment\noptions, and competitive pressure from pricing strategies and brand positioning. Through\nstrategic competition initiatives, JD and Tmall achieved balanced collaboration and competition to enhance market efficiency and operational resilience. Firms successfully navigated\ncompetitive risks toward maximizing coopetition benefits because of their strong absorptive capacity and agile supply chains. Results indicated that technological turbulence had a\nminimal effect, and thus market structure and strategic alignment became more critical for\ntheir strategic actions. Cooperation advantages are applicable across various levels of market\nintensity and dynamism, as seen in the JD\u2013Tmall partnership. These companies demonstrate\nhow e-commerce businesses can move past mandatory compliance through open business\nmodels, which create superior efficiency and better customer experiences.
