Our framework does not rely on trusted hardware or specialized cryptographic primitives such as property-preserving or homomorphic encryption. Instead, ARQ unifies structures from the plaintext data management community with existing structured encryption primitives. We prove how such combinations yield efficient (and secure) constructions in the encrypted setting. We also propose a series of domain reduction techniques that can improve the space efficiency of our schemes against sparse datasets at the cost of small leakage. As part of this work, we designed and implemented a new, open-source, encrypted search library called Arca and implemented the ARQ framework using this library in order to evaluate ARQ\u2019s practicality. Our experiments on real-world datasets demonstrate the efficiency of the schemes derived from ARQ in comparison to prior work.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.56553\/popets-2022-0128","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2022,8,31]],"date-time":"2022-08-31T17:28:44Z","timestamp":1661966924000},"page":"684-704","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":7,"title":["Time- and Space-Efficient Aggregate Range Queries over Encrypted Databases"],"prefix":"10.56553","volume":"2022","author":[{"given":"Zachary","family":"Espiritu","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Brown University"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Evangelia Anna","family":"Markatou","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Brown University"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Roberto","family":"Tamassia","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Brown University"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"35752","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2022,10]]},"container-title":["Proceedings on Privacy Enhancing Technologies"],"original-title":[],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2022,8,31]],"date-time":"2022-08-31T17:29:44Z","timestamp":1661966984000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/petsymposium.org\/popets\/2022\/popets-2022-0128.php"}},"subtitle":[],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2022,10]]},"references-count":0,"journal-issue":{"issue":"4","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2022,10]]}},"alternative-id":["10.56553\/popets-2022-0128"],"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.56553\/popets-2022-0128","relation":{},"ISSN":["2299-0984"],"issn-type":[{"value":"2299-0984","type":"electronic"}],"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2022,10]]}}}
