In applied or educational games both aspects are important \u2013 the fun to play and a topic to learn. While traditional games or leisure games only focus on the enjoyment and entertainment of the player, educational games also aim to convey knowledge and competences. However, in order to fulfill this goal, an applied game should take care that the player actually learns. The various components of our approach specifically support the learning aspects in a game in different and balanced ways. This includes adaptation of the game for smooth competence development, maintaining motivation, support in problem solving tasks, support for meta-cognition and reflection, and adaptation to the players' personality.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.58459\/icce\/2016\/1085","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2025,1,20]],"date-time":"2025-01-20T11:42:59Z","timestamp":1737373379000},"source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":0,"title":["A Modular Approach for Multi-Dimensional Learning Support in Educational Games"],"prefix":"10.58459","author":[{"given":"Alexander","family":"NUSSBAUMER","sequence":"first","affiliation":[]},{"given":"Christina","family":"STEINER","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]},{"given":"Matthias","family":"MAURER","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]},{"given":"Rob","family":"NADOLSKI","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]},{"given":"Dietrich","family":"ALBERT","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]}],"member":"37131","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2016,11,28]]},"container-title":["International Conference on Computers in Education"],"original-title":[],"link":[{"URL":"https:\/\/library.apsce.net\/index.php\/ICCE\/article\/download\/1085\/1017","content-type":"application\/pdf","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"text-mining"},{"URL":"https:\/\/library.apsce.net\/index.php\/ICCE\/article\/download\/1085\/1017","content-type":"unspecified","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"similarity-checking"}],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2025,1,20]],"date-time":"2025-01-20T11:42:59Z","timestamp":1737373379000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/library.apsce.net\/index.php\/ICCE\/article\/view\/1085"}},"subtitle":[],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2016,11,28]]},"references-count":0,"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.58459\/icce\/2016\/1085","relation":{},"ISSN":["3078-4360"],"issn-type":[{"value":"3078-4360","type":"electronic"}],"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2016,11,28]]}}}
