The research was based on 16 interviews conducted with students enrolled at a Brazilian federal institution and interpreted through Content Analysis. The results show that students\u00b4 engagement goes beyond dedication to classroom activities, encompassing dimensions related to interpersonal interactions, institutional support, and participation in broader formative experiences. Student involvement in research, academic outreach, and other extracurricular activities was identified as one of the most favorable elements for learning, personal development, and the creation of academic bonds. These bonds were associated with a sense of belonging to the institution and persistence in the course.
