For 3D bioprinting, it is very important not to change materials such as the survival of cells during the printing process. This study aims to determine the best model for predicting viscosity using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations and further investigate the relationship between material properties and nozzle geometrical parameters to optimize 3D printing processes. Three types of Alginate gels with different shear-thinning behaviour are considered and their viscosity is modeled by: Power Law, Herschel\u2013Bulkley, and Bird-Carreau models. The most accurate model is used in the further CFD simulations of these materials through two different types of 3D printing nozzles: 18G and 22G. The results showed how shear stress is influenced by the viscosity properties. Moreover, the effect of shear-thinning properties on the printability of materials is discussed.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.7148\/2024-0359","type":"proceedings-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2024,7,24]],"date-time":"2024-07-24T19:49:02Z","timestamp":1721850542000},"page":"359-365","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":2,"title":["Analysis of viscosity behaviour of shear-thinning hydrogels in 3d-printing nozzles"],"prefix":"10.7148","author":[{"given":"Fatemeh","family":"Ardaneh","sequence":"first","affiliation":[]},{"given":"Eero","family":"Immonen","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]},{"given":"Ashvinkumar","family":"Chaudhari","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]},{"given":"Jani","family":"Pelkonen","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]},{"given":"Santeri","family":"Knuutinen","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]}],"member":"4144","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2024,6,7]]},"event":{"name":"38th ECMS International Conference on Modelling and Simulation"},"container-title":["ECMS 2024 Proceedings edited by Daniel Grzonka, Natalia Rylko, Grazyna Suchacka, Vladimir Mityushev"],"original-title":[],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2024,7,24]],"date-time":"2024-07-24T19:49:05Z","timestamp":1721850545000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/www.scs-europe.net\/dlib\/2024\/2024-0359.html"}},"subtitle":[],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2024,6,7]]},"references-count":0,"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.7148\/2024-0359","relation":{},"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2024,6,7]]}}}
