While automated warehouse systems offer substantial benefits in terms of throughput and labour efficiency, they are more vulnerable to technology-related disruptions, such as equipment failures. This paper investigates operational measures to improve resilience against such failures through a synthetic simulation case study of a Shuttle-Based Storage and Retrieval System (SBS\/RS) fulfilment centre modelled in Siemens Tecnomatix Plant Simulation.\n\nTwo operational policy dimensions are evaluated regarding their influence on service level and performance under tote lift failure scenarios: storage location assignment and base stock allocation. The results show that aisle-dispersed storage location assignment and parametric base stock allocation can each reduce disruption-induced service losses, and that further reductions are achieved when both policies are applied together, without negatively affecting nominal throughput.
