An EDT integrates a real-time mathematical model, state estimation through sensor fusion, and control on the machine's own industrial embedded hardware, forming the intelligent system that drives the physical asset. In the proposed distributed architecture, each machine maintains its own EDT and shares state information with neighbouring machines over a deterministic industrial fieldbus, enabling coordination without central servers or middleware. The framework is demonstrated through a proof-of-concept in which a vessel EDT and a crane EDT execute on separate Beckhoff industrial PCs connected via EtherCAT, performing coordinated heave compensation. The crane EDT is benchmarked against an experimentally validated plant model, and the intra-IPC real-time performance is characterised.
