However, their application is often limited to domains that are directly related to the subject of the simulated system or to closely associated technical fields. At universities, when simulation software — often associated with significant licensing costs — is introduced as the core tool in specialised simulation courses, it is rarely applied in other courses, particularly in non-technical subjects, despite its rich visualization and animation capabilities. Similarly, in industrial contexts, simulation software is typically used for planning, design, emulation, or validation tasks, but only rarely as a tool to support internal training or continuing education for employees or customers.

In this paper, we present and generalise our experiences in applying material flow simulation tools, specifically Siemens Tecnomatix Plant Simulation software, for delivering non-simulation and non-technical content in university teaching and professional training. We analyse the suitability of such tools for these purposes, identify challenges and success factors, provide practical implementation recommendations, and illustrate the approach with selected example models.
[[2026,6,30
["Using material flow simulation tools in non-technical teaching and training: experiences and practical recommendations based on plant simulation
[[2026,6,23
["ECMS 2026 Proceedings edited by Filippo Sanfilippo, Florenc Demrozi, Fabio Sgarbossa, Mohammad Poursina
[[2026,6,30
[[2026,6,23
[[2026,6,23]]}}}
