In the context of Ray Tracing, it was noted that although the method accurately reproduces surface geometry, its result often takes the form of a raster with an orthogonal view, which makes it difficult to directly compare with other spatial data in real time. The BBE method, on the other hand, allows visibility analysis in native 3D coordinates, which facilitates the integration of results with further processing and validation stages.\n\nThe results reveal differences in the accuracy of visible zone mapping for ALS-derived terrain data compared with the proposed digital model. The analysis demonstrates the practical applicability of both methods and outlines their implementation procedure. Recommendations are provided regarding the selection of an appropriate approach based on data type, required accuracy, and intended spatial analysis applications.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.7148\/2026-0721","type":"proceedings-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2026,6,30]],"date-time":"2026-06-30T18:08:43Z","timestamp":1782842923000},"page":"721-730","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":0,"title":["Integrating digital object models with lidar point clouds for viewshed analysis: a comparison of bound block elimination and ray tracing"],"prefix":"10.7148","author":[{"given":"Adrian","family":"Widlak","sequence":"first","affiliation":[],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"Jerzy","family":"Orlof","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"Pawel","family":"Ozimek","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]}],"member":"4144","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2026,6,23]]},"event":{"name":"40th ECMS International Conference on Modelling and Simulation"},"container-title":["ECMS 2026 Proceedings edited by Filippo Sanfilippo, Florenc Demrozi, Fabio Sgarbossa, Mohammad Poursina"],"original-title":[],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2026,6,30]],"date-time":"2026-06-30T18:08:47Z","timestamp":1782842927000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"http:\/\/www.scs-europe.net\/dlib\/2026\/ecms2026acceptedpapers\/0721_3dmod_ecms2026_0060.pdf"}},"subtitle":[],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2026,6,23]]},"references-count":0,"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.7148\/2026-0721","relation":{},"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2026,6,23]]}}}
