These organisms can evolve to automatically react to signals from the environment or from other agents in a biologically-inspired manner. In addition to introducing SignalGP, we summarize previous results demonstrating the value of the event-driven paradigm in environments dominated by agent-agent and agent-environment interaction. Our full introduction to SignalGP will be published in the proceedings of the 2018 Genetic and Evolutionary Computation Conference (pre-print:\n                  <jats:uri>https:\/\/arxiv.org\/pdf\/1804.05445.pdf<\/jats:uri>\n                  ).\n                <\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.7287\/peerj.preprints.26921v1","type":"posted-content","created":{"date-parts":[[2018,5,9]],"date-time":"2018-05-09T17:25:05Z","timestamp":1525886705000},"source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":0,"title":["Evolving reactive agents with SignalGP"],"prefix":"10.7287","author":[{"given":"Alexander","family":"Lalejini","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Ecology, Evolutionary Biology, and Behavior program, Michigan State University, East Lansing, Michigan, United States"},{"name":"Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Michigan State University, East Lansing, Michigan, United States"},{"name":"BEACON Center for the Study of Evolution in Action, Michigan State University, East Lansing, Michigan, United States"}]},{"given":"Charles","family":"Ofria","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Ecology, Evolutionary Biology, and Behavior program, Michigan State University, East Lansing, Michigan, United States"},{"name":"Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Michigan State University, East Lansing, Michigan, United States"},{"name":"BEACON Center for the Study of Evolution in Action, Michigan State University, East Lansing, Michigan, United States"}]}],"member":"4443","container-title":[],"original-title":[],"link":[{"URL":"https:\/\/peerj.com\/preprints\/26921v1.pdf","content-type":"application\/pdf","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"text-mining"},{"URL":"https:\/\/peerj.com\/preprints\/26921v1.xml","content-type":"application\/xml","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"text-mining"},{"URL":"https:\/\/peerj.com\/preprints\/26921v1.html","content-type":"text\/html","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"text-mining"},{"URL":"https:\/\/peerj.com\/preprints\/26921v1.pdf","content-type":"unspecified","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"similarity-checking"}],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2019,12,23]],"date-time":"2019-12-23T19:11:25Z","timestamp":1577128285000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/peerj.com\/preprints\/26921v1"}},"subtitle":[],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2018,5,9]]},"references-count":0,"aliases":["10.7287\/peerj.preprints.26921"],"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.7287\/peerj.preprints.26921v1","relation":{},"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2018,5,9]]},"subtype":"preprint"}}
