Soil samples were collected from \nvarious urban land uses in Ijebu Ode town, specifically mechanic workshops (MW), \nroadsides (RD), industrial areas (IL), and market zones (MT). Ten composite soil \nsamples were randomly gathered from each land use at a depth of 0-30cm and subjected \nto analysis for heavy metal concentrations (copper Cu, iron Fe, lead Pb, zinc Zn, \ncadmium Cd, manganese Mn) using an Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer. This \nfacilitated the calculation of contamination levels and pollution load index. The \nfindings indicate that the concentration of Cu, Zn, Fe, and Mn is highest in soils from \nmechanic workshops, with the degree of soil contamination ranking as follows: \nMechanic Workshop > Industrial land use > Roadside > Market land use. The study \nconcludes that elevated levels of heavy metals in the sampled urban soil are closely \nlinked to improper land use practices and other human activities. It advocates for the \npromotion of sustainable environmental practices through comprehensive stakeholder \nengagement aimed at educating the populace on the management and preservation of \nurban soils against harmful practices.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.69798\/56261119","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2025,2,27]],"date-time":"2025-02-27T23:06:11Z","timestamp":1740697571000},"page":"9-20","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":0,"title":["Utilizing Eco-Innovation Practices to Mitigate Urban Soils Contamination from Heavy Metals: A Land Use-Based Sampling Study in Ijebu Ode, Nigeria"],"prefix":"10.69798","volume":"2","author":[{"name":"National Centre for Technology Management, Ile-Ife, Nigeria.","sequence":"first","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Sunday","family":"Amiolemen","sequence":"first","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Olapeju","family":"Adenekan","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"50185","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2025,3,1]]},"container-title":["Global Journal of Environmental Science and Sustainability"],"original-title":[],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2026,1,11]],"date-time":"2026-01-11T13:04:36Z","timestamp":1768136676000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/koozakar.com\/journals\/article\/KJ-84258990"}},"subtitle":[],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2025,3,1]]},"references-count":0,"journal-issue":{"issue":"1","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2025,3,1]]}},"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.69798\/56261119","relation":{},"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2025,3,1]]}}}
