A total of 50 cosmetic \nproducts, including foundation, powder, eyeshadow, eyeliner, and lipstick, were \nrandomly selected from local markets and beauty shops. Atomic Absorption \nSpectroscopy (AAS) was employed to detect and quantify the levels of lead (Pb), nickel \n(Ni), cadmium (Cd), and chromium (Cr) in the samples. The results revealed that 70% \nof the products contained at least one heavy metal, with nickel and chromium being the \nmost detected. In some cases, the levels of these metals exceeded the safe limits \nestablished by regulatory agencies, posing potential health risks to consumers. This \nstudy underscores the need for more stringent regulations and consistent monitoring of \ncosmetic products in Nigeria to prevent exposure to toxic heavy metals. It also \nhighlights the importance of consumer awareness and education regarding the safe use \nof cosmetics.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.69798\/67283643","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2025,6,26]],"date-time":"2025-06-26T04:44:12Z","timestamp":1750913052000},"page":"32-41","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":1,"title":["Cosmetic Toxicology: Investigating Heavy Metal Contamination in Commercially Sold Make-up Cosmetics in Asaba, Nigeria."],"prefix":"10.69798","volume":"1","author":[{"name":"Dennis Osadebay University, Asaba, Delta State, Nigeria.","sequence":"first","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0009-0005-3579-6437","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Augustine","family":"Chukwurah","sequence":"first","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Erhomarhua","family":"Agbeyi","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Donald","family":"Uzorwulu","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Uruh","family":"Kesiena","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"James","family":"Oghene","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"50185","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2025,5,1]]},"container-title":["Nature and Trends in Science and Technology"],"original-title":[],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2026,1,11]],"date-time":"2026-01-11T13:04:38Z","timestamp":1768136678000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/koozakar.com\/journals\/article\/KJ-59393083"}},"subtitle":[],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2025,5,1]]},"references-count":0,"journal-issue":{"issue":"1","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2025,5,1]]}},"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.69798\/67283643","relation":{},"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2025,5,1]]}}}
