It discusses how science is a pathway to mitigating \nrisks of scientific innovation and attaining environmental sustainability. The \nimportance of science in maintaining the rule of law is also highlighted. Focusing on \nthe intersection of science policy and sustainable development, the study assesses \nNigeria\u2019s efforts in aligning science, technology and innovation with the Sustainable \nDevelopment Goals (SDGs) and identifies key implementation challenges. Findings \nreveal critical gaps in governance across national, state, and local levels, funding \nacademic research, poorly focused research, corruption, brain-drain and policy \nincoherence among others. To address these challenges, the study recommends \nstrengthening multi-level governance, increasing investment in science and \ntechnology, enhancing policy monitoring and evaluation. Additionally, it emphasizes \nthe need for a reliable collection system of national development indicators, improved \ntracking of university research output, and curricular reforms in higher education to \nbetter support sustainability-driven innovation.
