{"status":"ok","message-type":"work","message-version":"1.0.0","message":{"indexed":{"date-parts":[[2026,1,11]],"date-time":"2026-01-11T15:34:43Z","timestamp":1768145683786,"version":"3.49.0"},"reference-count":0,"publisher":"Koozakar LLC","issue":"1","content-domain":{"domain":[],"crossmark-restriction":false},"short-container-title":["AJSPIM"],"abstract":"<jats:p>Due to a lack of knowhow of scientific methods of enquiry and linkages with \nformalized research institutions to aid machine design, many local artisans have turned \nto reverse engineering or copying the designs of readymade machine and machine \nparts. The resulting fabricated machines are however generally crude and inefficient. \nThis study developed the reverse engineering capabilities fabricators should possess to \ndevelop efficient machines through focus group discussions and evaluated the \ncapabilities through a survey administered on 326 fabricators. The results from the \nfocus group discussions revealed investment, production, linkages, marketing, \ninnovation and resources capabilities with 7, 14, 4, 10, 9, and 8 constructs respectively. \nThe respondents rated all the capabilities (on a scale of none to very high) high except \ncapability to advertise and determine prices (3.25), capability to reach high technology \ndemanding foreign markets (3.15); capacity to use R &amp; D output to improve on machine \ndesign (3.39) and capability to source for imported material (3.17) which were all rated \nmoderate.
