              <jats:p>This chapter describes the role of self-silencing in women's experiences of coping with cancer. It discusses various relevant psychosocial factors, including emotional distress, quality of life, and self-care agency. It provides a general framework for conceptualizing the experiences of those affected by life-threatening illness, and explores specific implications for understanding the emotional and relational issues encountered by women diagnosed with cancer. These issues include dealing with depression, attempting to engage in self-care, and contending with fears of cancer recurrence and possible death.
