Based on observing the cut marks left on the surface of cattle bones, these results suggest an intensification of the butchering practices that resulted in a high degree of specialization of the butchers. These workers, who were likely recruited among the lower classes of the colonial society, probably included a strong representation of indigenous laborers. These technological changes not only affected how the meat was prepared and carcasses processed, but they also probably created new material conditions such as new body techniques and spatial organization of labor. Together these new conditions favored the emergence of new subject positions among these workers.

[[2024,10,7
["Cattle and Butchers
[[2024,9,19
Cattle in the Postcolumbian Americas
Cattle and Butchers
[[2024,10,7
[[2024,3,19
9780813069982","9780813071169
[[2024,3,19
2026,2,28
[[2018,6,4
["Mini-review of estimated cattle-to-cattle transmission rates of bTB
[[2018,8,24
[[null
[[2024,10,8
[[2024,3,19

This chapter introduces the underlying theoretical principles that constitute the foundations of the book, including archaeological theory, assemblage theory, and actor-network theory (ANT). The interdependence between cattle and humans in the Circum-Caribbean region during the post-Columbian era is addressed through the metaphor of the itinerary. We look at various stages of a cow's life, including transportation, breeding, management, disassembly, and the use of its byproducts to illuminate the social, historical, and cultural context around them. Cattle, humans, and other non-human actors are considered as assemblages, where reality is a constant flow of matter between entities that create networks and mutually change as they move. ANT is used to model a series of nested assemblages that include cows, humans, and other actants, resulting in complex social fields such as haciendas or slaughterhouses.

[[2024,10,7
["Following the Cattle Assemblage
[[2024,9,19
Cattle in the Postcolumbian Americas
Following the Cattle Assemblage
[[2024,10,7
[[2024,3,19
9780813069982","9780813071169
[[2024,3,19
2024,10,8
[[2024,3,19

The cattle went through the slaughterhouse and were transformed into various material components that were then distributed to people of different social statuses, ethnicities, and occupations in different cities. Cattle were the main meat product consumed in both elite and commoner households, with access to meatier and richer cuts being more likely in wealthier households. This is similar to the way deer meat was distributed among Maya households before the European invasion. Despite the introduction of new domesticates, there was stability in the diversity of animal species consumed, reflecting continuity in dietary practices. Historical scholarship provides further insight into the pervasiveness of other cattle products, such as hides and fat from Mesoamerica, the Caribbean, and sometimes back to Spain. The chapter highlights the importance of cattle as a food source and sheds light on dietary practices and continuity in the consumption of animal species.

[[2024,10,7
["The Transformation of Cattle
[[2024,9,19
Cattle in the Postcolumbian Americas
The Transformation of Cattle
[[2024,10,7
[[2024,3,19
9780813069982","9780813071169
[[2024,3,19
2022,4,4
[[2001,1,31
[[2016,10,5
["3. suffer from serious kidney diseases after transportation. Hyperglycemia and gram-negative bacterial infection may be the main reasons why bovine is prone to severe kidney disease during transportation stress, however, the precise mechanism is still unclear. The purpose of the current study is to explore whether the combined treatment of high glucose (HG) and lipopolysaccharide (LPS) could induce madin-darby bovine kidney (MDBK) cells injury and autophagy, as well as investigate the potential molecular mechanisms involved.

Results
As we discovered, the combined effect of HG and LPS decreased MDBK cells viability. And, HG and LPS combination also induced autophagy in MDBK cells, which was characterized by increasing the expression of LC3-II/I and Beclin1 and decreasing p62 expression. LC3 fluorescence signal formation was also significantly increased by HG and LPS combination treatment. Furthermore, we measured whether the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) and the Notch3 signaling pathways were involved in HG and LPS-induced autophagy. The results showed that the combination of HG and LPS significantly increased the protein expression of Notch3 and decreased protein expression of p-mTOR, indicating that Notch3 and mTOR signaling pathways were activated. However, co-treatment with the Notch3 inhibitor (DAPT) could reverse the induction of autophagy, and increased the protein expression of p-mTOR.

Conclusions
This study demonstrated that the combination effect of HG and LPS could induce autophagy in MDBK cells, and the Notch3/mTOR signaling pathway was involved in HG and LPS-induced autophagy.
              </jats:sec>
[[2022,8,11
["The combination of high glucose and LPS induces autophagy in bovine kidney epithelial cells via the Notch3/mTOR signaling pathway
[[2022,8,11
Van Engen NK, Coetzee JF.
